Tying a Slip Knot

Before you can do any cast on, you need to make a slip knot. Every project in this book starts with a slip knot. Most projects begin with it on the anchor peg, but some (like cords) have you put it on one of the regular pegs.

Slip knot 1

1. Put your middle and index fingers of your right hand together. With your right thumb, hold the end of the yarn against your fingers. If you want a long string to use to tie the toy, your thumb should be holding the yarn about 4” from the end.

2. With your left hand, wrap the yarn around your fingers. Then, push the yarn in your hand underneath the circle of yarn on your fingers in-between your index and middle fingers. Make a small loop.

3. Pull your fingers out of the circle holding onto the loop with your non-dominant.

4. Once you place the loop around a peg, pull the two ends to tighten it.
