Knit Stitches

E-Wrap or Twisted Knit Stitch

The e-wrap knit stitch gets its name because it looks like a cursive e on the peg. To do it, you wrap the working yarn all the way around the peg counter-clockwise. Knit. The next stitch will start with the yarn behind the peg (almost at 12 on a clock) and then go around the peg to the front.

e-wrap knit stitch imageThe e-wrap knit stitch is the easiest stitch to do and the one I recommend for beginners. It’s quicker to do than the other stitches, especially once you get used to it. With a little practice, you can wrap all 12 pegs of the loom at once, then knit them at one time. The trick to doing this is to knit Peg 12 first, as it will hold the row in place. I don’t recommend this for beginners or children because if you don’t hold everything, all the stitches will unravel and you’ll have to start over.

As quick and easy as this is, it’s also the one you will grow to dislike because of how it appears. Unlike all the other stitches, the rows are not straight. Also, you can’t control the tension of the yarn, so the stitches tend to be looser.

The e-wrap knit stitch is also called the twisted knit stitch and knit through the back
